Arkansas is now trying to pass a law that would greenlight lawsuits against people who help a trans minors social transition
The law, among other things, includes a limit on hairstyles.
The Arkansas State Legislature just proposed a bill that allows for lawsuits to be pressed against anyone that helps a trans minor’s social transition. This is defined by the law as “any act by which a minor adopts or espouses a gender identity that differs from the minor’s biological sex as determined by the sex organs, chromosomes, and endogenous profiles of the minor, including without limitation changes in clothing, pronouns, hairstyle, and name.”
I’m at a loss of words at this point. What the hell is the point of this?
So, according to this law, entitled the “Vulnerable Youth Protection Act,” if a child in Arkansas even just does something that doesn’t conform to their “biological sex” and it differs from their gender identity, (which by the way, I know these stupid idiots don’t know that there is a major difference between biological sex and gender identity), that means anything that a person does to help said child, can now be punished by a lawsuit.
What the actual fuck is this? Equating social transition to castration? Really?
How the actual fuck is a child saying, “Hey I want to get a haircut!” or “Hey, I wanna try this name with these pronouns”, How is that castration? How is it mutilation?
No harm is being done. If anything, its doing more good than harm.
If a teen who is questioning their gender identity experiments, says “Oh I like this style of clothing”, or “I like this haircut”, that can give them more of a concrete idea as to what their identity actually is.
How anyone can equate something like that to mutilation or castration is beyond me, honestly.
The law goes on to further explain the liability, saying:
Any person who knowingly causes or contributes to the social transitioning of a minor or the castration, sterilization, or mutilation of a minor shall be strictly and jointly and severally liable to the minor and the minor’s parents for any personal injuries or harm resulting from the social transitioning or the castration, sterilization, or mutilation of the minor.
Again I ask, how on Earth is a teen socially transitioning “castration”? How?
It fails to define what exactly castration or mutilation means, which tells me that this was just designed to be a fascist tool to try and clamp down and eventually set a precedent that would lead to something dark.
In fact, this is the case for this entire bill, and majority of others too. They are poorly written on purpose, to mask the actual purpose of them behind legalese.
I know I sound like a broken record repeating this, but social transitions, or transitions in general, are not mutilation whatsoever, in any way, shape or form.
They do so much more help than harm. I know I have quoted this study before, but in 2022, the NIH did a study to find changes in the mental health of trans and nonbinary teens on their first year of gender affirming care. Their findings?
Gender affirming care saves lives. They go on to say:
73%! On top of that, 60% reported lower odds of depression. I have said this once, but it bears repeating, gender affirming care saves lives.
It and social transition are necessary aspects for a trans person, with social transition being even more so, especially for a trans teen. Having the ability to feel that sense of euphoria, feel right and comfortable as you, is an invaluable experience for that trans teen.
It just honestly sickens me that the Red Nazi’s are trying to take away something that could potentially help save lives. It is a callous and cold display of bigotry and is, as Erin Reed put it, a “North Korea state sanctioned” hairstyle type law. It is chilling, and it makes me begin to wonder:
Where is the line for the Democratic Party to come in and finally take a hard and defined stance against this callous hate?
What is it going to take for the Party to grow spines and stand up to the Red Nazi’s?
Ever since the CR vote on Friday, I feel that the Democratic Party has fractured into two halves:
One half, is filled with the old guard. The members of the party who have "seen it all." Think Schumer, Pelosi, those types. These are where I feel the 10 Democrats that sided with Schumer on the CR vote would be, if this were a tier list.
The other half, is the firebrands. The people who aren’t afraid to stand up to these Nazi dickheads. The person I think fits this descriptor near perfectly? Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Ever since the CR vote, she has been an example for a strong opposition to the Red Nazi’s. She, alongside Bernie Sanders, whom I also think fits this half very well, are touring the country as apart of their “Fight the Oligarchy” rally, which I feel is where AOC may be building her case for Senate, but that’s a discussion for later.
I say all of this to ask just a simple question to the Democratic Party:
Where is the line? What is it that the Red Nazi’s have to do before you finally step in and stop it? What will it take for you to grow spines?
You have shown us that you have the ability to have a spine, when you blocked the trans sports ban bill in the Senate, but you were under the skillet of public outcry.
What must the Red Nazi’s do for you to finally stand up to them on your own without public pressure?
The inaction doesn’t help anyone, and only serves to make them more bolder.
I will end with this simple message to the Democratic Party:
Your inaction isn’t helping anybody. It is only serving to make the Red Nazi’s in Congress more bold, because if they don’t face any opponents to their laws, it will only make them feel more invincible. Either oppose them, and take pages out of AOC’s book, or step aside as an opposition party if you aren’t going to oppose them, or just twiddle your fingers till the midterms.
Your inaction is compliance.
