Hello there! Im melon. I decided to start a Substack to help teens like me be more informed and to help make some kind of a positive impact in the community.
1. What exactly made you start this?
Well, a lot of things. For one, as a trans person, specifically a trans teen, I felt like I wasn’t making enough of an impact in the community (at least in my eyes). So I for how I could make an impact. I saw people like Erin Reed and Alejandra Caraballo and others making an impact by standing up, making their voices heard and I felt like, if I wanted to make a positive change in the community, I feel like I not only need to have a platform like Substack, but to also just generally try to combat homophobic and transphobic rhetoric using my platform.
2. What kind of community are you looking to build here?
The community that I want to end up fostering, and what exactly I want to use this for, is a beacon of hope, information and a place where trans people and others can come for just an unfiltered piece.
3. Where does the name come from?
It isnt that hard honestly. I took my favorite color, crimson, and meshed it with the words queer and added diaries. That’s it.
4. What can we expect from you?
You can expect from me an honest look at the subject matter, with sources, although it seems that I haven’t been doing that, and just writing opinion pieces and im sorry for this. And while there’s nothing wrong with that, I just feel like that the way that made this, it was framed as a news source, not an opinion column. I will tone down on the opinion pieces, and move this to a more news focused source going forward.
I know that’s what you expected from the jump, and im sorry. I fully understand if you dont want to be here anymore.
Anyways, that’s my redid welcome, since the first one felt so half assed and unfinished. I added point 4, mostly as an apology for the fact that this hasn’t been a news source, and just been an opinion column. Going forward, there will be less of them.
Thank you, and I hope you enjoy.
